Hi, Everybody -- Welcome to September, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MONTH! I hope you all have plans to further your plans and preparations for emergencies/disasters, AND that you are planning to attend our Emergency Preparedness and Communications Meeting this coming Saturday morning, 9:00 AM, September 14th, at the Flyaway, 2nd Floor, northeast corner of Saticoy and Woodley Avenues in Lake Balboa. This should prove to be a very informative meeting! Click here for the meeting agenda.
New City Councilmember Nury Martinez of the 6th District will be there to get more of an idea about what WE are doing for Emergency Preparedness, and to perhaps share with us some of her own ideas as to how we can all work together on this vitally important subject.
In addition, Denise Edwards will be there to tell us about her American Red Cross Classes that are coming up. Completion and passing of this course will qualify you for CERT III certification! You do NOT have to have completed CERT I or CERT II to take these classes. Certification will be for 2 years, and could well mean the difference between life and death of a family member, neighbor, co-worker, or even a total stranger in the event of a disaster, or just in every day life! Previous graduates of CERT III are encouraged to attend in order to re-certify at a much reduced rate. Also, here is a a flyer for our Valley Disaster Preparedness Fair coming up on Saturday, October 5th at Firestation 87 on Balboa Blvd. We had over 1,000 attendees last year, and are expecting even more this year. This event is sponsored by 11 Neighborhood Councils and is a FUN EVENT for the whole family!!! Free EP Bags to the first 500 families, Door Prizes every half hour, fun things for the kids to do, great EP demonstrations and FREE FOOD, too! Print out the Flyer and share with friends, neighbors and co-workers! You can park free for this event behind the Salvation Army Store just north of the Fire Station.
