On April 19, 2023 Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) opened doors to a “Community Open House” at the Airtel Plaza Hotel to unveil their vision of future land use options at Van Nuys airport (VNY). The event was followed by a virtual presentation of the “VNY Vision Study” on April 22, 2023. LAWA’s Virtual presentation can be viewed online here: https://cloud1lawa.app.box.com/s/4546ezgexmks2mpwpxldrd3d8rrvgtsp
Neighborhood Councils and stakeholders across the San Fernando Valley have pointed out that the three “Vision Board” options presented for Public Comment (Alternatives A, B and C) were void of accompanying research, data or studies to otherwise demonstrate to the public what potential benefit or potential consequences may result to their community, schools, parks, places of worship and local businesses from the alternatives LAWA presented. LAWA also failed to present any data or research to indicate that any of the options presented were viable or if environmental conditions and/or limitations were a consideration in their design process. LAWA opted to circumvent the VNY CAC Vision Study Ad Hoc before moving forward with both their events and now indicate that they are ready to choose from one of their own three designs: https://www.iflyvny.com/vision-study/schedule.
Community members are encouraged to review the material themselves (link: https://www.iflyvny.com/vision-study). CD6 constituents can email their comments to our Council office at: Jonah Glickman <jonah.glickman@lacity.org>, Comments to the VNY Airport manager can be sent to: VNYPR@lawa.org.
