Hi, Everybody, and Happy Valentines Day (almost!):
This Saturday, February 13th, 9:00 AM, is our LBNC Emergency Preparedness Meeting at the Flyaway Bus Terminal, in the 2nd Floor Community Meeting Room. (Take the INSIDE elevator at the north end of the building, or the steps outside the building.) The Flyaway is located at 7620 Woodley Avenue (NE Corner of Saticoy and Woodley. Plenty of FREE PARKING out front in the spaces closest to the street. Click here for the meeting agenda.
In our ongoing efforts to bring you inspiring EP speakers, we're delighted to tell you that PAUL SHIVELY, Valley Bureau CERT Coordinator for the largest geographical area of the LAFD, with 5 Battalions and 7 Coordinators is coming to talk to us! The Valley Bureau's proactive team is setting the standards for the other 3 Bureaus! Paul, whom many of you know and have heard speak before, will tell us how to become more involved and continue our EP service to our Community through CERT (Community Emergency Response Team. We tease Paul about being a legend in his own time, but he truly IS, and you'll enjoy his talk and learn so much!
We'll give you a quick rundown of the Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Alliance meeting, and update you on insuring the safety of our EP Supplies during the El Nino rains. We'll also report on three LBNC EP votes from our last Board meeting, and Bill Hopkins, Chair of the GHNNC EP Committee will bring us up to date on what's happening with the Red Cross classes to fulfill CERT II requirements.
The next CERT COMMUNITY MEETING will be held Sunday, February 28th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at LAFD Fire Station 89 in the Community Room Building behind the Station. They're located at 7063 Laurel Canyon Blvd. in North Hollywood, 91605. This meeting will be on Triage, something we ALL need to review often!!! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE CERT TRAINED TO ATTEND. THIS MEETING IS OPEN TO ALL! Our next Battalion10 meeting with Battalion Coordinator Christy Adair at LAFD Station 88 will be in April. Stay tuned!
Don't forget that this Sunday, February 14th at 9:45 AM we will have our FRS/GMRS/Walkie-Talkie Checkin on Channel 5. Remember -- this is the best way for us to communicate after a disaster, and the way will be able to get important information spread around our neighborhoods. If you have questions about your radio, bring it to the Saturday EP Meeting and Dan Tomlinson will help you with it! Our regular weekly Ham Radio checkin will be this and every Sunday at 9:00 AM at 145.570 Simplex.
And last but not least, Brian Tessier and Linda Pruett will be presenting a FREE Map Your Neighborhood Orientation Class on Saturday, February 20th, from 10:00 AM to Noon at SOS Survival Products, 15705 Strathern St., Unit 11, Van Nuys 91406. As the ad for a pneumonia shot on tv says, "Get this one done!" Remember, this is the 9 step program that teaches you to take care of yourself, your family, and your immediate neighborhood (your block, your apartment floor, your condo units), AFTER a disaster happens!
We'll do all the work -- you just have to invite your neighbors and provide a place for them to sit and see your tv. It's a fun way to get to know your neighbors better, and to prepare for the inevitable at the same time! Come let us entertain you for two hours as you learn about the program! Call SOS at (800) 479-7998 and sign up now. I promise you'll be glad you did!
We're looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning! Bring a neighbor or a co-worker!
