Park and walk to the bin. We'll be there waiting for you! 🙂
It will be hot!!! Bring water, hat, and sunscreen!!!
Shorts or jeans are the fashion of the day, and NO OPEN TOED SHOES, PLEASE!
Wear your CERT vest so we can identify you!
We will be replacing expired items in our EP Kits. These kits are for use by LAFD, LAPD, Medical Professionals and CERT-trained individuals in the event of a disaster. We see these Bins becoming gathering spots for the Community after a disaster where information can be exchanged concerning Red Cross Shelters, open medical facilities, open grocery stores and pharmacies (if any), conditions of roads/streets/freeways, information on location of residents, etc. We plan to have ham radio in operation, and to be in touch with folks throughout the neighborhood via frs/gmrs/walkie-talkie type radios. Even if you are unable to participate in the exchange of EP items, please come and see the bin and what we have inside to better prepare folks for a disaster!!!

LAKE BALBOA NC EP COMMITTEE HAS BEEN ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS DRILL AS DOCENTS! ARE YOU AVAILABLE? THERE IS ALSO A REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS. OF COURSE ALL CERT GRADUATES ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE! SEE BELOW!
The Canoga Park Neighborhood Council is sponsoring its second full-functional Disaster Drill on July 23rd, 2016 at 1600 hours. This drill is different from most... No earthquake! The drill scenario is similar to the San Bruno Gas Explosion September 9th, 2010 when a 30" natural gas line exploded. The noise from the explosion was so loud and shook the earth so violently that many thought it was an earthquake.
LAFD and LAPD are overwhelmed with multiple structure fires and related injuries.
In this drill, there is a neighborhood street fair taking place at the time of the explosion. Thankfully some CERT members and Coordinators and ACS members were there at the time of the explosion along with some LAFD and LAPD Cadets... some of which received some minor injuries. ACS will transmit patient status updates and needs to an offsite IC.
Grossman Burn Ctr will conduct a "Just in Time" Training as part of the Drill Briefing.
LAFD will eventually respond and seek victim status information but will leave the scene resulting in the CERT Triage having an extended tarp treatment period.
Drill Training Tasks:
1. Empower our LAFD and LAPD Cadets and CERT members...
2. Utilization of convergent volunteers under the Incident Command System.
3. Burn Care and Treatment
4. Treatment of related shrapnel injuries.
5. Triage and hand off.
6. Scene safety...gas leaks? Downed wires?
The IC will be a barebones. No EZ Ups, Working right off of the hood of a vehicle. Responders will be working with minimal supplies and improvising.
NEEDS:
CERT members, friend and neighbors as victims, evaluators, assistance with the flow of victims and convergent volunteers.
Hope to see you there! Please RSVP if you will be able to attend the Drill.
