On Saturday, May 12, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian held his 3rd Annual San Fernando Valley High School Chess Tournament and 1st Annual San Fernando Valley Elementary School Chess Tournament at High Tech Los Angeles in Lake Balboa. The LBNC partnered with Assemblymember Nazarian's office to expand the tournament to include elementary school students after the LBNC donated chess sets to several schools in our community last year.
Three of our very own Lake Balboa elementary schools proudly participated: Gault St. Elementary, Lemay St. Elementary and St. Bridget of Sweden.
We also had the following Lake Balboa High Schools compete and win during the High School Chess Tournament:
- First Place: High Tech LA
- Second Place: Birmingham Community Charter
If you are an avid chess player and would be interested in sharing your skills with students at our local schools, please contact Linda Gravani, LBNC President, at LindaG@LakeBalboaNC.org to find out more information about becoming a chess mentor.
