The LAKE BALBOA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL (LBNC) is looking for volunteer Neighborhood Watch Block Captains.

If you are interested in forming a neighborhood watch group in your area, the LBNC Neighborhood Watch team would love to help you to facilitate this… online via Zoom for now, and possibly in-person as well when safe to do so.

The LAKE BALBOA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL (LBNC) is currently looking for volunteer community members who would be interested in working with the LBNC, the LAPD, and your Senior Lead Officer (SLO) to become a volunteer Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and to form (or re-start) a Neighborhood Watch Group on your street/block.

WHAT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?  A Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that involves the active participation of residents in cooperation with local police to prevent & reduce crime in our Lake Balboa community.  Neighborhood Watch is residents not only knowing each other, but take the time to care about each other and work together in a program of mutual security & assistance.  Neighborhood Watch is about crime prevention, education, and the implementation of important home & personal security strategies to improve and protect the safety of all residents.

WHAT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH BLOCK CAPTAIN?  Block Captains coordinate and serve as liaisons telling/teaching people what to do & who to notify in an emergency. In addition to coordinating with the LBNC, the LAPD, your SLO, and neighbors, this role involves speaking & teaching on topics of crime, crime prevention, emergency preparedness, neighborhood services, homelessness, & other areas impacting your community’s quality of life.

HOW CAN THE LAKE BALBOA NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL (LBNC) HELP YOU & YOUR COMMUNITY:

  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can host & help you with virtual (ZOOM) meetings during Covid-19.
  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can help you with in-person meetings when safe to do so.
  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can set you up with tips for successful meetings, topics, guest speakers, etc.
  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can provide you (and your neighbors) with Neighborhood Watch street signs.
  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can provide you (and your neighbors) with Neighborhood Watch window decals.
  • The LBNC Neighborhood Watch Group can provide you (and your neighbors) with “Watch the Road” and/or “Slow Street” yard signs.

Interested LAKE BALBOA community members are encouraged to email us at NW@LakeBalboaNC.org for more information.
