How To Access Your CA COVID-19 Vaccination Card Online

The Golden State has not issued a statewide mandate for a COVID-19 vaccine, but swaths of businesses now require proof of inoculation.

As the omicron variant continues to grip California, vaccines remain the number one defense against the virus. As the pandemic lingers on, Golden Staters will need to hang onto their vaccination cards to enter businesses and events for the foreseeable future.

Anyone who receives a shot will receive a physical COVID-19 vaccination card issued by the Centers for Disease Control, but digital copies are accepted in many places.

In California, anyone can access find their digital COVID-19 vaccine record through the California Department of Public Health here.

Those who need to show proof of vaccination can use the state's digital version in most places.

California's portal only provides a digital copy of a vaccine record. Those who received a vaccination through a federal agency such as the Department of Defense or Indian Health Services will need to reach out to those agencies to get a vaccine record.

Golden State residents who have additional questions about accessing vaccination records can check out this information page.

The omicron variant has continued to tighten its grip on the state, racking up cases at a record rate. The variant is also more likely to cause breakthrough infections.

The recent surge has even placed a strain on the state's hospital system as the state's health care system experiences widespread staffing shortages.

In San Francisco, medical first responders were urging residents to only call 911 in a dire situation.

"Only call 911 or go to the emergency [department] for life-threatening medical emergencies,” the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management tweeted over the weekend. "Keep medics available for life-threatening situations."

The surge has also become a challenge for those looking for a negative test to return to social activities or work after a possible exposure to the virus as the state experiences testing shortages.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday announced the activation of the California National Guard to support local sites as the state experiences a testing shortage amid a dire surge in COVID-19 cases driven by the omicron variant.

"We have robust testing in California, we always want more, we're seeking to get more, but that testing is a key part of keeping Californians knowledgeable about who's infected, who's exposed and helping us keep the transmission in a more manageable place," said Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state's health secretary, at a news briefing last week.
