The City’s civil rights department, LA Civil Rights, is receiving reports that some banks may be illegally closing or restricting the accounts of depositors with Armenian surnames. One bank has already been penalized for this illegal conduct.
If you know someone whose bank account was closed or restricted without a clear explanation, and you believe it was due to perceived Armenian heritage, you can file a claim with L.A. Civil Rights.
See LAisForEveryone.com or call 213-978-1845. Translation service is available.
Even if you're not sure it was discrimination, make the call! Filing a claim is free and won’t prevent you from participating in a lawsuit on the same matter.
