After more than four decades at Van Nuys Airport, the Airtel Plaza Hotel and Conference Center will close this Sunday. The property at Sherman Way and Valjean Avenue has long served as a gateway for travelers and a gathering place for weddings, celebrations, and business conferences. In an Oct. 3 announcement, the hotel thanked guests and employees and said it will support staff and care for visitors through the final day.
Los Angeles World Airports, which owns the land at Van Nuys Airport, and Springboard Hospitality, the hotel’s owner and operator, were unable to reach a new lease agreement. Without a renewal in place, Springboard Hospitality chose to close the Airtel. The message from the hotel acknowledged that many in the community feel sadness and disappointment and expressed gratitude for the memories made there.
To mark the closing, the Valley Industry and Commerce Association will join the hotel team for a community gathering titled “One Final Pour, Many Lasting Memories.” The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 5:00 p.m. at the Airtel. Community members, business leaders, and longtime guests are invited to share stories and reflect on the hotel’s role in the Valley.
