Do You Have What it Takes to Volunteer to Make a Difference in Our Community?

Your help, ideas, and participation are needed to play a key role as a member of the Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council Health and Public Safety Committee.

Why This Committee Matters

This key committee is crucial for Lake Balboa because it serves as a dedicated forum for addressing community-specific health and public safety concerns. It acts as a direct link between residents, our neighborhood council, law enforcement, and Los Angeles City officials. The Health and Public Safety Committee is a platform for residents to voice concerns, present ideas, and get involved in problem-solving. The committee has proactively identified, discussed, and advocated for solutions to health and safety issues that affect our community’s resilience and quality of life.

What We Have Accomplished

Public health wins

  • Advocated for the successful passage of California Assembly Bill 1719, which requires all high school students to be trained in hands-only CPR as a graduation requirement.
  • Promoted health and well-being by hosting American Red Cross classes to provide FREE community CPR training to residents and stakeholders. More than 2,376 people have received CPR training.

Safety tools provided

  • Provided funding to supply uniforms to equip the West Valley LAPD Volunteer Community Patrol.
  • Supplied FREE gun safety locks and gun safety information to residents.
  • Supplied FREE anti-car theft safety locks.
  • Supplied FREE Lake Balboa Neighborhood Watch street signs and training in collaboration with LAPD West Valley Senior Lead Officers.

Community forums and collaboration

  • Hosted public discussions and forums on key public health and safety issues. Topics included emergency preparedness plans in Lake Balboa schools to handle cardiac emergencies, whether teachers should be required to renew CPR certification, and whether parents should be held accountable for child gun violence on a school campus.
  • Promote continuous collaboration with the West Valley LAPD to provide for increased public safety.
  • Promote community participation at monthly West Valley LAPD community meetings.
